Application process closed for spring 2010

July 20, 2009 -- To address an unprecedented budget reduction to California State University (CSU) of $584 million for 2009-10, SF State will not accept new applications for spring semester. Typically the University admits 2,500 transfer students and first-time freshmen each spring semester.

Graphic with the words, 'swine flue update.'

Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply for fall 2010 when SF State is expected to have openings. The fall application period begins October 1. Visit the SF State Future Students Web site for more information about how to apply: www.sfsu.edu/future/index.html

Despite budget cuts, CSU's enrollment for the past several years has exceeded the state funding received for each student. Overall, CSU is looking to reduce its enrollment by 40,000 students system-wide for the 2010-11 academic year through a combination of enrollment tools. The decision to close spring admissions is part of the overall effort to reduce enrollment.

CSU is working to finalize a plan to address the unprecedented budget cut, which will include measures to reduce enrollment, employee furloughs, possible student fee increases, salary and hiring freezes, and restrictions on travel and purchases. The CSU Board of Trustees will consider the overall plan to address student fees, enrollment and employee furloughs at its July 21 meeting.
