Readers can step back in time to the musical heyday of San Francisco's Fillmore District with living jazz legend John Handy, discover how an anthropology student helped detectives solve a cold case and even traverse to the top of Mount McKinley for a closer look at the culture of risk.

The fall/winter issue explores the research of three University scientists who earned the National Science Foundation's most prestigious award for tenure-track professors. Other story subjects include the latest distinguished writers to join the Creative Writing Department's faculty and two alumni who received some of the highest national honors in their respective fields, teaching and photography.

Reader feedback is encouraged. Letters to the editor received by Feb. 25 will be considered for publication in the forthcoming spring/summer issue.

The latest online issue showcases the newly released Web design template, offering a unifying look for SF State's colleges and departments across campus.
