Susan Thackrey is the author of the book of poetry, Empty
Gate, and has written essays on a variety of authors and subjects. Here
she delivers the 16th Annual George Oppen Memorial Lecture on Twentieth
Centry Poetics. In her talk, entilted George Oppen: A Radical Practice,
she explores the identification of "what authentic experience is" in the
poetry of George Oppen. The lecture was later published by The Poetry
Center and O Books. Steve Dickison introduces Thackrey.
