In an impressive display of the breadth of his writing, African American novelist and poet John A. Williams reads from his novel-in-progress Birdland; from a series of poems which includes "Newest Neighbor," "The Trifling Neighbor," "Eric's Memorial," and "Swimming Over Atlantis"; and from his libretto Nat Turner's Profession. He rounds out the reading with an excerpt from his recent novel Clifford's Blues. A Q&A follows the reading. Ishmael Reed introduces Williams.
