Roman Glass

Unguentaria, inv. s. 95-99
Roman. 1st-3rd AD
Glass blowing was a popular craft in ancient Italy from the first century AD onward. The present collection of glass is comprised of unguentaria (cosmetic and perfume vessels). Ancient glass often appears to shimmer with opalascent colors. This condition may be the result of gradual weathering during long periods of burial.
