CPTSC 2006

MEETING CHALLENGES OF THE NEW ECONOMY

The Council for Programs in Technical and Scientific Communication (CPTSC) invites you to its 33rd annual meeting, October 12 – 14, 2006, at San Francisco State University in San Francisco, California.

CPTSC members and non-members may submit proposals on the conference theme: Meeting Challenges of the New Economy. Position papers or poster presentations should discuss/illustrate how programs in technical and scientific communication are preparing students for these workplace challenges:

  • Distributed work
  • Incentives for innovation
  • Creative economy
  • Globalization of work
  • Technology readiness
  • Culture & diversity
  • Contingent workforce
  • Team roles & responsibilities

The CPTSC conference emphasizes discussion. The audience includes people from new, as well as established, programs and anyone with programmatic interests in technical and scientific communication. We welcome participants from secondary, community college, or university levels, as well as representatives of industry.

Position paper

  • Participants present five-minute position papers on programmatic issues (rather than reports of specialized research or presentations of particular teaching strategies)
    in order to generate discussion.
  • Format does not allow for slide show presentations.
  • The Proceedings, published after the conference, includes the position papers, often in expanded versions.
  • Only those papers presented at the meeting are eligible for publication in the Proceedings.
  • Submit proposal for position papers (in required format) at http://www.cptsc.org/2006proposals.

Poster

  • Participants make five-minute poster presentations on programmatic issues (displaying complex connections between topics or showing evidence/data that is primarily visual in nature, such as diagrams, photos, or examples) in order to generate discussion.
  • Submit proposals for poster presentation (in required format) at http://www.cptsc.org/2006proposals.
