The San Francisco State University athletics program is an important aspect of the total educational program and coaches are concerned with the academic work of each student-athlete. It is the athletic staff's goal to see that SFSU athletes graduate from the university with their chosen degree. In compliance with NCAC regulations, San Francisco State University does not grant athletic scholarships, but financial aid (work-study, Pell Grant, Perkins Loan) is available to persons who qualify for such assistance.

Athletic facilities used by varsity teams include: Stephenson Field (softball), Maloney Field (men's and women's soccer; baseball), Cox Stadium (men's and women's track and field), Gator Gym (men's and women's basketball; volleyball; wrestling), and the swimming pool (men's and women's swimming). INTRAMURAL/RECREATIONAL SPORT ACTIVITIES PROGRAM

The Intramural/Recreational Sports Program under the supervision of the Department of Kinesiology provides an opportunity for students and faculty/staff to participate in sport activities in a structured and competitive setting. The goal of the Intramural/Recreational Sports staff is to encourage fair play, equality in participation, fun, and enjoyment in a safe environment.

Intramural leagues, tournaments, and special events are offered in the Fall and Spring semesters. A variety of men's, women's, and coed sports are offered including: basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, swimming, bowling, ultimate frisbee, water polo, softball, badminton, tennis, and flag football. Through their involvement in the program as officials, supervisors, and players, students have an opportunity to meet new people, to develop leadership skills, and keep fit in a fun environment.

For those not interested in organized events, the Kinesiology facilities are available at the noon hour and certain evening hours for student and faculty/staff recreational use.
