Faculty
The Women Studies faculty consists of scholars from humanities, social science and interdisciplinary studies. Further, Women Studies faculty have the academic background and experience to teach their subjects with the richness of an interdisciplinary approach. Faculty have received national recognition for being student centered and for putting theory into practice through political activism

Advising
A basic feature of the Major is that students' programs will be individually designed, in cooperation with a Women Studies advisor, to meet their own interests and goals. Before anything else, therefore, be sure to consult the Department Chair for reference to an appropriate advisor.

Courses
Our campus offers more than 40 courses each semester on issue related to women and gender. Women Studies courses here are of two kinds: those offered by the Women Studies Department (WOMS courses) and those offered by other departments and programs, e.g., ANTH 590 (Anthropology of Women). WOMS courses offerings include core courses required for the Major as well as a variety of elective and special topic courses. Much of the curriculum focuses on women of color and third world women. View the Department of Women Studies Courses.

Our faculty and students have strong links to the community through our internship program and through individual and group participation in a range of community activities. Among the groups with which we have close ties are the Legal Services for Prisoners with Children, the San Francisco Human Rights Commission and the Commission on the Status of Women; International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission; Narika; Asian Women's Shelter; La Casa de las Madres; San Francisco Women Against Rape; Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and Services.

Careers
Women Studies can also help you plan for your career goals. Our Women Studies program stresses critical thinking, analysis, research, writing, and presentation skills. These skills enable motivated students to excel in many other careers from small entrepreneur to high-tech professional; from careers that focus on social change to careers in higher education.
