Vanessa's Voice

How have increased tuition fees impacted you and your family?:
I am a first generation college graduate and have decided to pursue my Masters degree as well. The financial burden of paying for my undergraduate degree still weighs heavy on my everyday life. Even though I have had to make sacrifices to pay for my undergraduate loans I did not let this deter me from pursuing a graduate degree. It is very disheartening that our government continues to punish students who come from a lower socioeconomic background. If tuition continues to increase at the rate it has currently been rising higher education will only be accessible to the wealthy and privileged. A tuition increase will set millions of Americans back and help keep the less fortunate down in the lower echelons of society. Education is the key to ending poverty but only if our government decides keep tuition affordable for all students from all backgrounds.

What are you studying at SF State and what do you hope to do once you graduate?:
