Rachael's Voice

How have increased tuition fees impacted you and your family?:
The budget cuts and increased tuition fees have now made it IMPOSSIBLE for students to complete "4 year degrees" in a period of 4 years. We should really call them 6-7 year degrees to be more accurate with the time. I am finally graduating this semester, but not without hardship. I have paid my entire way through college and work two part time jobs in addition to being a full time student. How can students perform their best this way? Majors at my school have been cut because we can't afford to keep them, and students pursuing those majors have been left high and dry, and must change majors which keeps them in school even longer. Those years add up and I'm worried about paying off my student loans once I graduate. School almost seems like a burden now than anything else. I just wanted to hurry up and graduate to improve the society we live in today, with a B.A. in Environmental Sustainability and Social Justice. We are only hurting ourselves by making it harder for young educated people to enter the workforce as professionals in their fields.

What are you studying at SF State and what do you hope to do once you graduate?:
B.A. in Environmental Sustainability and Social Justice.
