Miray's Voice

How have increased tuition fees impacted you and your family?:
I have had to take a full load and take the maximum number of classes each semester because I cannot afford to prolong my education. Many of my teachers suggest against this because it would be best if I could concentrate on a smaller number of classes. I am not able to apply myself 100% to every single class. It is a struggle to maintain my grades while taking such a workload. This is made doubly stressful because the budget cuts make it harder every semester to get in all the classes I need. As each class is cut that is average of 30 students that need to be stuffed in to other classes. This also hinders our learning by cutting the variety of classes down. If I had the funds I would take one extra semester to complete a minor that would broaden my education. Still this would not be beneficial considering the fees of an extra semester.

What are you studying at SF State and what do you hope to do once you graduate?:
I am completing a English Degree and hope to graduate in the Spring 2012. I plan then to get in to the work force, possibly publishing and later I would like to go to graduate school. Graduate school would be something I would start sooner but because of the fees I am going to have to put it off until a better time for myself.
