How have increased tuition fees impacted you and your family?:
I am a pre-nursing student and I rely completely on financial aid to fund my education. My parents pay for absolutely nothing and I am completely self-reliant. Financial aid increases with the fee increases; however, it does not cover the total cost of the fee increase. This year, I had to take out an additional $2,000 loan and move off-campus to be able to afford to come back to San Francisco State University. In addition to that, my Cal grant was rescinded this year because of the income ceiling that was put into place last year because my mother's income for the year of 2010 was $500 over the income ceiling. My cal grant was worth $1300 and this semester I got a work study job and a job at Hollister to support myself and it is still not enough. I feel that the fee increases are absolutely pointless because we still have a severe shortage of classes. I had to push back applying to nursing school by a year simply because I could not get into anatomy.

What are you studying at SF State and what do you hope to do once you graduate?:
As I said, I am a pre-nursing major and I'm not sure when I will graduate because the year that I apply to nursing school is dependent upon my being able to actually take the pre-requisite courses I need; however, I can't take them if I can't get into them simply because of a lack of seats.
