Connie's Voice

How have increased tuition fees impacted you and your family?:
Increased tuition fees have been a struggle and even bigger burden for my family and I. I'm the youngest in the family and my older sister is graduating this semester from UC Berkeley. The costs for her to attend school and for my education here at Sf State too is causes a lot of financial issues. I do not receive financial aid and that causes an even bigger issue. Although my family's income exceeds the requirement to quality for financial aid, it doesn't make it any easier. Having two college students and paying full price tuition especially with the increases (with no loans taken out I may add) is beyond stressful for all of us. It's the worst feeling in the world knowing my parents are putting me through school to get this higher education so I can have a bright future. It's the worst feeling because I'm not even paying for most of it, they are. They are the ones suffering. My parents mean the world to me, as I'm sure mostly everyone else's parents do. I can recall countless phone conversations revolving around the topic of money, spendings, budgeting, cutting back. For two people who have given me the world and still are trying to provide even more, it's ridiculously unfair that tuition rates are going up the way that they are. Our generation is the future, so why are there people out there putting these almost impossible amounts of money to pay off in a timely manner in front of us?

What are you studying at SF State and what do you hope to do once you graduate?:
I am currently a Kinesiology major with an emphasis on exercise science here at Sf State but I am hoping to change my major over to the Dietetics program because I would love to be Dietician in the not so far future. More specifically, I would like to do clinical work within a elder home facility based on their specific nutrition needs. I love being physically active and maintaining and healthy lifestyle and I want to transfer that love over to the community.
