Conference & Lecture Series

The U.S.-Japan Institute at San Francisco State University periodically organizes lectures and conferences around topics of interest to American and Japanese students, executives, academics and policy makers. These lectures and conferences cover a wide range of topics and can be tailored to the demands of the interested group. The number of participants have varied between ten and forty.  The Institute has cooperated with professors, consultants, and policy specialists to host a number of memorable conferences over the years. We have also worked with many Japanese and American Organizations to jointly sponsor events.

The lecture/conference program can vary from half a day to one week. We can arrange for translators if necessary.  These activities take place on the scenic San Francisco State University campus and we make us of very modern facilities to present the high quality programs. If necessary, we can also organize a site visit to an organization or company in the Bay Area specializing in the topic of interest.  Some of the topics covered in past conferences include:

  • Determinants of the successful entrepreneur
  • Small business management in the United States
  • Internet banking strategies
  • High-technology strategies for the small business firm
  • Doing business in Japan: what you should know.
  • Regulations in the California food market
  • American banking deregulation and survival strategies

For participants, the Institute can arrange housing at a convenient hotel at moderate prices. During the summer months, we can also house participants in San Francisco State's modern Guest Center. For all lecture/conference events, the Institute can also arrange for quality luncheons to be served. We have worked with many organizations and companies to provide information on a number of topics. Some of these include the organizations below:
