SFSU Degrees Granted Over A Ten-Year Period
Please Read Prior to Examining the Tables
- Degree titles are listed in the tables followed by the numbers of degrees granted by year beginning in 1997-98. A college year is defined as the period of time beginning with summer term and ending with the subsequent spring semester.
- The tables reflect all degrees granted, including those granted to double or triple majors. Since each degree granted is counted, these are not head-count data.
- Degree titles that are listed with a colon (:) in the name are to be read as follows: Name of Major/Area of Concentration/Degree Designation [e.g., BA, MS].
- The following degree programs that are awarded jointly with other universities are not indicated on the tables at this time:
- Master of Science in Physical Therapy (MS) formerly MPT)
- Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)
- Doctor of Physical Therapy Science (DPTSc)
- Doctor of Philosophy in Education: Concentration in Special Education (Ph.D.)
- Doctor of Education in Education: Concentration in Special Education (Ed.D.)
- Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.)
- All current degree programs at SFSU are included in the tables, as are discontinued degree programs that have had degrees awarded during the ten-year period of the table. Depending on individual student Bulletin rights, discontinued degrees may sometimes be awarded to students with department approval after the degree program by that name has been formally discontinued.
- Blank cells in a column mean that the start date of the program is more recent than the beginning of the ten-year range of the table or that the degree program has ended or that there were no degrees granted that year. [See #8 below for additional information.]
- Degrees awarded retroactively are recorded in the table in the current year rather than in the year the student completed study.
- The column headed Effective Dates indicates when a degree was first approved for offering and for admitting students. If an end date appears in the column, the date indicates the final term the degree was available for admission. It is also important to note that sometimes degree titles change over time (e.g., Film to Cinema). An end date may also signify the final term prior to a change in the degree name.
- In order to determine all the degrees awarded by an administrative unit, one should refer to the table labeled “Degrees Granted by Administrative Unit.” A degree with an end-date can at times be traced to a similar degree with a new title by looking for the administrative unit (e.g., college, school, department, program) responsible for the area of study.
- In instances of degrees that have ended during the ten-year range of the table, the administrative unit of the degree program is indicated by the unit’s current name. For example, degrees formerly granted through the Film Department can be found under the current Cinema Department name.
