SFSU Census Enrollment by Declared
Primary Major
Over a Ten-Year Period
Please Read Prior to Examining the Tables
- The
head-count data in the table represent degree-seeking students enrolled at
census date in the fall semester beginning in 1998. Census date is the fourth
week of the semester.
- Tables
indicate students’ declared primary majors and do not include undeclared
transitory students, unclassified post baccalaureate students or students seeking credentials or certificates. For a more
complete picture of enrollment by declared major, please see the table headed
“SFSU Census Enrollment by Declared Secondary Major.” Please note that these
tables are not a representation of total enrollment.
- Degree
titles that are listed with a colon (:) in the name are to be read as follows:
Name of Major/Area of Concentration/Degree Designation [e.g., BA, MS].
- All
current degree programs at SFSU are included in the tables, as are
discontinued degree programs that had students enrolled during the
ten-year period of the table.
- Blank
cells in a row indicate that the start date of the program is more recent than
the beginning of the ten-year range of the table or that there were no
new students enrolled in the degree program that year.
- The column
headed Effective Dates indicates when a degree was first approved for
offering and for enrolling students. If an end date appears in the column,
the date indicates the final term the degree was available for enrollment. It
is also important to note that degree titles may change over time. An end
date may signify the final term prior to a change in the degree name. A degree
with an end date can at times be traced to a similar degree with a new title
by looking on another table for the administrative unit (e.g., college,
school, department, program) responsible for the area of study
- In
instances of degrees that have ended during the ten-year range of the table,
the administrative unit of the degree program is indicated by the unit’s
current name. For example, enrollments in the formerly named La Raza
Department can be found under the current Raza Department name. Please see
the table labeled “Census Enrollment by Declared Primary Major by
Administrative Unit.”
- Several
undergraduate majors (Business Administration BS, Engineering BS, Hospitality
Management BS, Science BA, Speech Communication BA) have an entry followed by
"No Concentration" in parentheses. This application category was established
for applicants who have not determined which concentration within the major
they want to pursue. Departments advise these students about choosing a
concentration once they arrive on campus.
- To determine enrollment by college, refer to the table
labeled “SFSU Census Enrollment by Declared Primary Major by Administrative
Unit”. For additional enrollment data by college, department or major, please
visit the Office of Academic
Institutional Research website.
