Beginning summer 2008, Lorena returns to the TPW program as a part-time instructor. In 2000 and 2001, she taught both TPW480 and TPW585. Over the last 11 years, she has worked as a Technical Publication Manager for a telecommunications company and as the Training Coordinator for a worldwide software company, directing the development of both classroom curriculum and synchronous and asynchronous distance education.
Lorena earned a B.A. in Technical & Professional Writing and an M.A. in Education from San Francisco State University. She is currently completing a Master's in Social Work at the University of South Florida, with plans to use her combined knowledge to write and teach in the not-for-profit sector. |

Robyn Brode Orsini has had a long freelance career in publishing, working as a project coordinator, writer, copyeditor, proofreader, indexer, typesetter, and designer. For many years she owned The Compleat Works, a company handling all phases of book and other print production, from the receipt of a manuscript to finished camera ready pages. She has worked on virtually every type of publication encompassing a wide range of formats and subjects: technical books and manuals for computer software; academic books, repors, and summaries; how-to-manuals in gardening and carpentry, children's books targeted for various greade levels; college-level textbooks on various subjects; trade books on every topic imaginable; a men's magazine; newsletters for nonprofits and universities; annual reports for a large corporation; and brochures and advertising for companies and ad agencies. She is still waiting to tackle a juicy mystery or novel. Robyn has written two children's book series call The Months (12 little books for early readers) and Going Places (4 books for third graders).
Robyn was one of the founders of Editcetera, a professional association of freelancers in the publishing field, and served as its second coordinator. She is a member of Bookbuilders West and was president and vice president of the Golden Gate Chapter of the American Society of Indexes.
Besides teaching part time in the TPW program, Robyn teaches professional courses through Editcetera (proofreading, punctuation, and the business of freelancing).
Robyn has a master's degree in Education and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, both earned at Holy Names University in Oakland. She received her BA degree in English literature at the University of California at Berkeley and her AA degree from San Francisco State University. |

Beginning summer 2007, Annette returns to the TPW program as a part-time instructor. From 1999 to 2004, she taught writing and editing courses such as TPW400, TPW480, TPW550, and DAI 324. For the past 15 years, she has worked as a technical communicator in a variety of industries: high tech, healthcare, biotech, manufacturing, oil, chemical, and service provider.
Annette earned a B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Washington and an M.S. in Environmental & Industrial Hygiene from the University of Cincinnati. In May 2008, she received a Doctorate in Education with a focus in Organization and Leadership at the University of San Francisco. Annette also teaches participatory hermeneutic research at USF and works in learning and development at Telecare Corporation. |

Bob Dvorak received a B.A. in Biology and Psychology from Case Western Reserve University and an M.A. and a Ph.D. in English from Ohio State University.
Bob has worked as a technical consultant, editor and writer in both the academic and private sectors since 1986. He has experience in technical training, user documentation, technical documentation and compliance documentation (for FDA and SEMI). He has twelve years of instructional experience as a graduate teaching assistant, postdoctoral lecturer and visiting assistant professor in English and Humanities.

Neil Lindeman holds a Ph.D. in rhetoric and professional communication from Iowa State University and an MA and BA in English from Brigham Young University. He recently finished a four-year stint as Managing Editor at the Center for Applied Biodiversity Science at Conservation International, one of the world's most influential environmental organizations. He has also worked as a web designer and has several years of experience teaching technical communication and other types of writing. |

Frances Phillips is a Program Officer for the Arts and Humanities at the Walter and Elise Haas Fund in San Francisco. (See interview.) She was previously Executive Director of Intersection for the Arts (1988-1994) and Director of the Poetry Center at San Francisco State University (1985-88). Phillips has over eighteen years of experience with fundraising and grantwriting for non-profit organizations in the fields of arts, humanities, health, education, and social services. She now serves on the Publications Committee for Grantmakers in the Arts, a national professional association.
In summer 2001, Frances and co-author, Stan Hutton, published "The Nonprofit Kit for Dummies," a guide to starting and managing nonprofit organizations, with Hungry Minds, Inc. Phillips also is the author of three books of poetry published by Kelsey Street Press (Berkeley, CA) and by Hanging Loose Press (Brooklyn, NY). She reviews poetry, fiction, and children's literature for local and national newspapers and journals, and she is an active member of the Bay Area Book Reviewers Association.

K. C. Price is the Managing Director of the Ninth Street Independent Film Center, a media arts facility in San Francisco that is home to seven, long-established film arts groups. He has been working in themnon-profit sector as a grant writer and fundraising officer for over twelve years. The majority of his career in development has been managing and raising funds from foundations, corporations, and government sources. In 2006, he served as Interim Executive Director for Film Arts Foundation, a leading filmmaker service organization that has been providing support programs to artists for over 30 years. He was also the Director of Development for Frameline for four years, and prior to that position he led the fundraising efforts for an HIV prevention agency in San Francisco.
In his current position at Ninth Street, K.C. is responsible for the
fundraising goals, program development, and administration for the media arts center. K.C. has also served on several grants panels and consulted for arts organizations on their fundraising efforts.
A native of North Carolina, K.C. majored in English literature at the
University of North Carolina at Greensboro with an emphasis on creative writing; and he holds a Master of Arts degree in English literature from George Washington University where he was a Fellow of the University's Graduate School of Arts.

Lu Rehling has over fifteen years of professional experience as a writer, editor, trainer, manager, and consultant. Recently, during a two-year leave of absence from TPW, she was Manager of Technical Publications at AvantGo, Inc. (since acquired by Sybase, Inc.) She has held staff positions with Film Counselors Inc. and Applied Digital Data Systems in New York; The Quaker Oats Company and Sealy, Inc. in Chicago; and Microwest Terminal Systems Inc. and Shipley Associates in Utah. She also has done freelance work as an independent contractor and consultant.
Lu has prior professional experience in higher education, beginning with teaching as a graduate student at The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, (where she earned her Ph.D., A.M., and A.B. degrees in English Language and Literature). Before joining San Francisco State University, she held teaching appointments at The University of Utah, Salt Lake Community College, and Westminster College.
Lu is active in several professional associations for academics and practitioners. She also frequently presents at professional meetings and conferences and has a record of publications in scholarly books and in leading juried journals devoted to technical and professional writing, pedagogy, and program development. She continues her professional development through scholarly research and consulting.
