WHAT MY ELM/EPT SCORES MEAN AT SFSU



If you place into any of SFSU's remedial classes, you must begin remediation in your first semester at SFSU. If you have questions about your placement, contact the Office of Orientation and Retention at 415-338-1304.

YOUR ENGLISH PLACEMENT


  151 or Higher

  You may enroll in ENGLISH 114 (Freshman composition).


  150 - 142

  You must enroll in ENGLISH 106 in your first semester. Add this 4 unit course at your orientation.


  141 - below

  New freshmen admits for Fall must take an English composition course, ENG 104, which will be added at orientation.
In your second semester, you will complete the 2 semester sequence by taking ENG105 with the same teacher and class.



Freshmen non-native speakers of English should also take the ESLPT. To register, visit www.sfsu.edu/~testing.

Non-native speakers of English who are transfers are also eligible to take ESL classes. Transfers should take the ESLPT. To register, visit www.sfsu.edu/~testing.

  40 - 30

  You must take MATH 60 in your first semester.
  (You must earn a C or better grade to enrolled in
  Math 70).   In your second semester, you
  must take MATH 70 and earn a C- or better grade.


  370 and below

  28 and below

  You must take MATH 59 in your first semester.
  (You must earn a C or better grade to enroll in
  Math 70.   In your second semester,
  you must take MATH 70 and earn a C- or
  better grade).
