The Accounting Department allows you to take the test until you pass it.
ACT/SAT SCORES
I have a California high school GPA of 3.0. Do I have to submit my SAT/ACT scores to SFSU?
It is to your advantage to do so if any of your scores will give you an exemption to EPT or ELM or both.
AP scores must come directly from College Board to the University's Admission
Office.
The Admission evaluators will determine what credit you will receive
at SFSU and will enter the credit on your SFSU records. College Board can
be reached at (609) 771-7300 in New Jersey.
Where can I get a "CBEST Registration Bulletin"?
You may register for CBEST and read the "CBEST Registration Bulletin" online at www.cbest.nesinc.com. If the Testing Center has any bulletins, they will be on the open shelves in the HSS buliding room 206. You may also check with the College of Education in Burk Hall.
Are the EPT (English Placement Test) and the ELM (Entry Level Mathematics)
admission tests?
No. The results of the tests will not affect your admission to any California State University (CSU) campus.
Do I have to take the EPT (English Placement Test) and the ELM (Entry Level Mathematics) Placement Tests?
Unless you are exempt from EPT and ELM, you must take the test in order to attend SFSU. Failure to take the required placement test(s) prior to classes starting will result in your disenrollment from classes at SFSU.
When should I take the ELM and EPT tests?
The earlier the better! For fall entry we recommend no later than the March tests. If you take the test(s) by March, you will receive your scores in time to register for math and English courses during Freshmen Orientation. May I use a calculator when taking the ELM?

I took the EPT; do I have to take the ESLPT (English as a Second Language Placement Test)?
If English is NOT your first language and you have NOT been in the United States more than six years, you are required to take the ESLPT at SFSU. Click here for ESLPT information and sample questions.

How do I register for the GET (Graduate Essay Test)?
You may register on the Testing Center's web page. See GET Information which includes a sample question. Click here to register for GET.
How do I get my GET score?
Get scores are sent to your graduate major department. See your graduate advisor or your department to obtain your GET score.
Do I have to take the GRE?
You must ask your intended graduate program if the program requires the GRE general and/or GRE subject and/or GRE Writing Assessment.
How do I register for the GRE?
The GRE general test is now only available on computer in the U.S. You may phone 1(800) GRE-CALL to make an appointment. The exam is now available six days a week.
The GRE Writing Assessment is available on computer and on paper. To register for the GRE Writing Assessment on paper call 1(609) 771-7670 or Fax 1(609) 771-7906.
The Gre subject tests are administered on paper. You may register online at www.gre.org or via the application form in the "GRE Information and Registration Bulletin."
If you are outside of the United States, see the GRE on the internet.
Registration for most of these exams will be online early each semester. You may read the test information online any time. The U.S. constitution requirement can be fulfilled by passing the CLEP exam in American Government. CLEP exams are NOT administered at SFSU. Call ETS in Oakland (925) 808-2000 to register for a CLEP exam. Register online for those Graduation Requirements by Exams administered on campus by using this test registration link.
How do I register for JEPET (Junior English Proficiency Essay Test)?
If you registered for JEPET and did NOT take it, you must register again for another test date. See JEPET Information, Preparation and Registration on this web site.
Can I take English 414 and NOT take JEPET?
No, you will not be able to touch tone register for English 414 unless you do not pass JEPET.
When can I take English 414?
Jepet scores are available 4 to 6 weeks after each test; therefore, you may register for English 414 during the next touch tone course registration period at least four weeks after you took JEPET. For example, if you take JEPET in September, you will be able to register for English 414 the following spring. If you take JEPET in January, you will be able to register for English 414 the following summer.
