San Francisco State University Office of International Programs Study Abroad Scholarship for Fall 2008. Due April 28, 2008 - Application
Financial Aid
- 75% of students on study abroad programs utilize financial aid to completely cover or supplement the costs of their program.
- While studying on the CERTIFIED exchange programs through the Office of International Programs all SFSU financial aid applies (work-study is converted to a loan).
- Contact the SFSU Financial Aid Office for more information.
As study abroad participants, students have the opportunity to apply for additional scholarships, independent organizations and governmental aid. Each scholarship has unique requirements that may focus on financial need, academic excellence, non-traditional destinations and underrepresented groups.

Gilman International Scholarship Program - www.iie.org/gilman
- The Gilman Scholarship is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE) in Houston . The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program provides awards for study abroad for U.S. citizen or U.S. national students who are receiving federal need-based financial aid. Successful recipients receive up to $5,000 for one semester or the academic year. For more information and to apply, please refer to the web site or call toll free 888-887-5939.

Institute for the International Education of Students
- The Institute for the International Education of Students believes in equal access to study abroad for all students. As such, the program provider annually delegates approximately $1 million for student scholarships having varying qualifications.
Institute of European and Asian Studies Scholarships
- IES/IAS administers its own financial aid and merit scholarships for their programs. Financial aid is awarded primarily on the basis of need; but students applying for the merit scholarships must have a 3.4 GPA. These awards range from $2,500-$4,000.

- NSEP was designed to provide U.S. undergraduates with the resources and encouragement they need to acquire skills and experience in countries and areas of the world critical to the future security of our nation.
Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarships - http://www.rotary.org/foundation/educational/amb_scho/index.html
- More than 1,100 scholarships were awarded for study in 2002-03. Through grants totaling approximately US$26 million, recipients from some 69 countries studied in more than 64 nations. The Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships program is currently the world’s largest, privately funded international scholarships program.

- Fellowships are for students intending to pursue a career in the Foreign Service. Eligibility: US citizen, completed sophomore year with a 3.2 overall GPA, preference given to minority students. Administered by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation

Available to all International Program participants except those applying to Japan. Awardees will be selected based on academic excellence, financial need and the quality of his/her application. Award is $500.

CHINA
- National Security Education Program - www.iie.org/nsep/ The National Security Education Program (NSEP) is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE). The scholarships are intended to provide support to U.S. undergraduates who will pursue the study of languages and cultures currently underrepresented in study abroad critical to U.S. national security. For more information and to apply, please refer to the web site.
The Wang Family Scholarship provides an opportunity for students to prepare for a role in a rapidly changing international and interdependent world. Ten $4,000 scholarships will be awarded to students for study in China on the CSU International Program. Applications are due February 1.
- The primary goal of the Freeman-Asia Program is to increase the number of American students who study in East and Southeast Asia. Successful recipients receive $5,000 for one semester and $7,000 for one academic year. Deadline to apply is March 15 for the Fall semester and academic year and October 15 for the Spring semester. GERMANY
- The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers Undergraduate Scholarships to highly qualified undergraduate students for study abroad, university language or summer courses, senior thesis research and/or internships in Germany.
- The Baden-Württemberg Scholarship Offers a 10 month stipend (approx. $500. per month) to qualified students wishing to study in Baden-Wüttemberg , Germany. Contact your campus's Office of International Programs for more details.
- CSU International Programs Scholarship
Available to all International Program participants except those applying to Japan. Awardees will be selected based on academic excellence, financial need and the quality of his/her application. Award is $500.
ITALY
- Graduating high school

- National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) - www.niaf.org/Scholarships A $5,000 award for two separate categories: Italian American Students who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements-open to any area of study and students from any ethnic background majoring or minoring in Italian language, Italian studies, or a related field, who demonstrate outstanding potential & high academic achievements.

JAPAN

- Ward Wallach Memorial International Scholarship Students accepted to the CSU International Program to Japan will automatically be considered for this scholarship. Selection based on financial need and commitment to the study of the Japanese language and civilization as demonstrated in the regular IP application.
- Association of International Education, Japan (AIEJ) Scholarship
- Bridging Scholarships for study abroad in Japan. Undergraduate students of any major are eligible to apply. The awards are typically $2,500 for semester-long programs or $4,000 for academic-year programs.
