IEEC - International Education Exchange Council The International Education Exchange Council (IEEC) at San Francisco State University is an on-campus student organization, with funding, support, and campus recognition through its registration under the SFSU Associated Students. The mission of the IEEC is to promote international education, to assist in the internationalization of the SFSU campus, and to bring students of all nationalities together in a spirit of cooperation. IEEC sees international education exchange as an invaluable way to strengthen ties across boundaries of nation and culture. The major constituencies of the IEEC are all international exchange students who come from overseas universities/institutions with exchange/relationship agreements with the California State University system or with SFSU, all SFSU students who have returned from an official certified overseas study program (IP alumni), or other study abroad programs, applicants to the SFSU/CSU study abroad programs, and all other students who are interested in international exchange on campus. Membership and association are truly open to all. Some of the traditional IEEC activities include co-sponsorship of the Study Abroad Fairs, the International Film Club at SFSU, the annual "World at a Glance" series, International Week at SFSU in the Fall semester, staffing the study abroad information booths on campus, raising funds for the IEEC scholarships, and participating in classroom presentations and information panels on study abroad. IEEC also provides a political voice and representation for its member, and IEEC members have traditionally served on a variety of campus committees linked with International Education. Social activities include the weekly "Pint Nights," Beginning and End-of-the-year parties, bonfires at the beach, International Coffee Hours, the annual ski trip, and field trips to explore the local San Francisco/Bay area. Through participation in the IEEC events, students are able to work with, and come to know, students from other countries and cultures with similar interests. IEEC is governed by a board of officers selected at the beginning of the Fall semester. Officers are comprised of international students and U.S. domestic students. Business meetings are conducted once a month, and are attended by the officers, selected representatives of the various overseas partner institutions, and all interested members. IEEC maintains a club office in the Cesar Chavez Student Union in T-139. For more information, contact the IEEC through the Office of International Programs (415-338-1293), send a message to the e-mail account (ieec@sfsu.edu) or check the web page at http://userwww.sfsu.edu/~ieec. |
