Segment III
Segment III: Relationships of Knowledge
Information for Faculty
Introduction
You have been approached by a student who has returned from studying abroad and asked to be a faculty mentor for the Study Abroad Segment III. This website is designed to answer some of the common questions about this relatively new cluster, in order to help you decide whether or not you would like to be a mentor for AU 694 this semester.
AU 694 (All-University 694) is the number for a one-credit course that is the culminating experience for the Study Abroad Segment III. The faculty mentor will guide the student through a paper that is at least ten pages in length and in some way brings together knowledge gained in the classroom with and the experience of living in the host country. The mentor and the student together will determine the specific theme of the paper – anything is fine, as long as it combines classroom material with lived experience.
Previous iterations of this program have asked faculty mentors to also provide academic advising before departure. We are no longer asking students to find a mentor until they get back, and advising responsibilities have been transferred to Academic Advising. Mentors will only be responsible for guiding the writing process and grading it when it's done.
