Certificate in Guide Dog Mobility
- Program on hold until further notice; no applications accepted -
This
graduate certificate program is a collaborative effort between the Department
of Special Education at SFSU and Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc. in San
Rafael, California. The primary objective of the certificate program is
to prepare highly qualified professionals to serve as guide dog mobility
instructors for the blind. Guide Dog Mobility Instructors train specially
bred dogs to serve as dog guides and also provide specialized instruction
to people who have visual impairments in their travel with a dog guide.
Staff and faculty from both campuses are experts in the field and collaborate
in the specialized training. Courses in guide dog mobility are completed
primarily on the San Rafael campus, approximately one-half hour north
of San Francisco and at San Francisco State University.
