Preliminary Education Specialist
Education Specialist Credential programs include requirements in a general education component,
common core requirements, plus specialization coursework. These specialist
credentials meet state standards for special education teachers. The Preliminary Education Specialist credential allows graduates to teach in their area of specialization
for a period of five years.
Specialist Credentials are offered with emphasis in the following areas:
Childhood Special Education: (birth to pre-K only): children eligible
for early intervention, special education, and/or related services under
including adults): learning disabilities, cognitive impairments, other
health impaired, and emotional disturbance.
Disabilities: (K-12, including adults): autism, cognitive impairment,
deaf-blindness, emotional disturbance, and multiple disabilities.
