Fly Fishing in the North Yuba Watershed

General Description:

Trout are one of the world’s most renown game fish and California is home to many of these sought after species. Join Trent Kirschner of Tahoe Wild Trout, a professional fly fishing guide and instructor in learning or advancing your knowledge of how to catch these unique species on a fly. The program will cover trout species, equipment, knots, etiquette, technique and entomology. At the end of the course you will feel comfortable fishing waters on your own and able to walk into any fly fishing shop to discuss one of the world’s most exciting sports. We will likely be driving on dirt roads to expand our knowledge.

Instructor

Trent Kirschner

Trent Kirschner is a veteran Truckee area local fly fishing guide who at the age of ten picked up his first fly rod and has been passionate about the sport ever since. He is a graduate of the highly regarded Clearwater Guide School program and was brought back to the Clearwater program to guide and instruct before becoming a full time guide in Truckee. Trent is also a senior guide for Truckee River Outfitters and is the main fly fishing instructor for Tahoe Mountain Club members. When Trent is not on the river he can be found teaching science at North Lake Tahoe Middle School.

Class Schedule

Plan to arrive at the field station by 12 noon on Friday. We will meet in the classroom from 1-3pm and do equipment over view and then head to the water for bug sampling and techniques before dinner. After dinner we will meet in the classroom and discuss fly choice. Day 2 will be packed with more about techniques, casting and on the water education and application.
