World AIDS Day
The World Health Organization designated December first of every year as World AIDS Day (WAD). In 2006, the was accountability, " STOP AIDS, keep the promise".
HIV/AIDS STATISTICS
Today, 40.3 million people are estimated to be living with HIV/AIDS. Of these, 38.0 million are adults and 2.3 million are children under 15.
- An estimated 4.9 million people acquired the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in 2005, including 4.2 million adults and 700,000 children under 15.
- During 2005, AIDS caused the deaths of an estimated 3.1 million people, including 2.6 million adults and 570,000 children under 15.
- Women comprise an increasing proportion of adults living with HIV/AIDS. In 2005, 17.5 million women were living with HIV, an increase of 1 million since 2003. This trend is occurring in most regions of the world, and is particularly pronounced in sub-Saharan Africa.

Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC)
The Student Health Advisory Committee will display the annual "Commitment Tree' in Jack Adams Hall to observe World AIDS Day. SFSU students will have a chance to add leaves to the tree declaring to their commitment to protect themselves and others from the HIV infection. This event is a part of the SFSU AIDS Coordinating Committee (ACC) program.
