Message from the President

Image of Les Wong with a sign that reads "Thank You! Gracias! Arigato!"During the first year of my SF State presidency, my team and I travelled a distance equivalent to three circuits around the globe, meeting with alumni and friends of the University.  In those locales, and on campus, we have been actively engaged in discussions about how we want to shape the future of the University.

SF State has a strong history of making a difference in people’s lives. It has been encouraging to hear alumni and friends discuss the impact SF State has made in their families, their professional careers and their community. I sense a growing level of engagement and pride, and as the pages of this magazine will attest, we have many reasons to be proud.

We are a University like no other, and we are on the move. Two major initiatives are under way on campus to ensure that our impact not only continues, but expands and deepens.

The first is a campus-wide strategic planning effort that will chart the future path for SF State, identifying several institutional-level objectives for growth and improvement.

The second is a bold new initiative — the University’s first comprehensive fundraising campaign. This promises to be a transformative endeavor that will further strengthen our campus as a dynamic center of learning, research and community service.

These two efforts are first steps toward answering the questions that alumni and friends pose to me: how can I give back, how can I help make SF State even better? Stay tuned for more information — we’ll be reaching out to you with exciting ideas.

Readers of SF State Magazine are our most engaged alumni, our closest friends and our most generous donors. You make today possible — and you will be key to creating the remarkable future that we envision. Thank you for your continued interest and support.

Sincerely yours,

Signiture of President Les Wong
