Gerontology Program, We’re BACK!!!

Welcome to the Master of Arts Degree Program!

Warm greetings from the faculty and staff of the Gerontology Program at SFSU! We are poised to meet the aging population challenges of California and the nation and a 21st century of global aging opportunities.

We are offering a curriculum consisting of an interdisciplinary core and three emphases in Geriatric Care Management; Health, Wellness and Aging; and Long-Term Care Administration. Each area offers relevant career paths and we are pleased to provide multiple, generous scholarships.

The Master of Arts was established in 1986 and is the first, and thus oldest graduate program in Gerontology in the California State University or University of California systems. The program is dedicated to: the higher education of professionals using an interdisciplinary approach to serve the present and future needs of society in meeting the multiple challenges of an aging population; the conduct of applied research to increase the body of knowledge about issues and process of aging; and the application of the discipline in the community to advocate for improving the quality of life for the aged.

Our program emphasizes an interdisciplinary, skill-based approach to professional education and we draw upon the strengths of the university community as well as the expertise of the faculty. We follow the standards and guidelines of the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE).

You are most welcome to join us to make our state, nation ;and planet better places in which to grow into elderhood. Ours is one of the most exciting and dynamic fields of study and we are truly excited about the individual, societal and global potentials of our future.

Sincerely,

Anabel Pelham, Ph.D.
