Anabel Pelham, Ph D., Professor

Dr. Pelham coordinates the academic emphasis in Geriatric Care Management and is Director of the Institute on Gerontology. She has presented and published widely in the field. Dr. Pelham's current interests include international aging, wellness and spirituality in aging. She is past president of the California Council on Gerontology and Geriatrics and a member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Intergenerational Relationships. Dr. Pelham is a Board member of the California Council on Gerontology and Geriatrics, and Northern California Presbyterian Homes Services.

Brian de Vries, is professor of gerontology at San Fran¬cisco State University. He received his doctorate in life-span developmental psychology from the University of British Columbia in 1988 and was a post-doctoral fellow at both Simon Fraser University in Vancouver and the University of Southern California. He is a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) and member of the leadership council of the American Society on Aging (ASA) and co- Chair of the Lesbian and Gay Aging Issues Network constituent group. Most recently, Dr. de Vries has become a policy advisor for the AARP, California. Dr. de Vries is incoming editor of the journal, Sexuality Research and Social Policy; he is former associate editor of The International Journal of Aging and Human Development (2000-2006). He has served as guest editor of Omega: Journal of Death and Dying (1997 and 2004) and as a guest co-editor of Generations (2001). In addition, he has edited four books, including Kinship Bereavement in Later Life (1997), End of Life Issues (1999), Narrative Gerontology (2001), and Gay and Lesbian Aging (2004); he has authored or co- authored over 70 journal articles and book chapters and he has given over 100 presentations to professional audiences on a variety of topics such as the social and psychological well-being of midlife and older LGBT persons, friendships and social relationships across the adult life course, as well as end of life issues and bereavement.
 

 
Darlene Yee, Ed.D., CHES, Professor

Dr. Yee coordinates the academic emphasis in Long-Term Care Administration and is Director of the Health, Mobility and Safety Lab. She has presented and published extensively in the areas of gerontological health education, long-term care administration, and older drivers and safety research. Dr. Yee is a Charter Fellow of the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education and a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America; she is on the Editorial Boards for AGHExchange, Journal of Aging and Health, Journal of Health Education, and Journal of Gerontological Social Work. Dr. Yee is on the Board of Directors for the California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform, Planning for Elders in the Central City, San Francisco Senior Center, and SmartSilvers Alliance.

Cathy Cress, M.S.W.

Cathy Cress holds an MSW in Organization, Planning and Administration in Aging from U.C. Berkeley. Ms. Cress has worked in the field of aging for twenty- two years. She is the president of Cresscare, a private case management agency in Santa Clara and Monterey, California, which she has owned and directed since 1984. Ms. Cress has extensive experience in private case management programs and she lectures nationally on both the process of ease management and marketing case management. She is the former editor of the Geriatric Care Management Joj4rMj. of the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers (0CM). She published Handbook of Geriatric Care Management Jones and Bartlett, January 2001,the first book on geriatric care management nationally.Ms. Cress is a lecturer in Aging at UC Berkeley’s School of Social Welfare and a lecturer at San Francisco State University in the first geriatric care management concentration in a gerontology master’s in the country.

 

 

Margriet DeLange, M.A.

Margriet DeLange earned her B.A. in Psychology from J.F.Kennedy University who recently selected her as Alumni of the Year for their School of Education and Liberal Arts. She teaches for Senior New Ways, offering programs to enhance the meaning, purpose and well-being of seniors. She serves as Vice-Chair on the Advisory Board of the Center for Aging and Spirituality, offering workshops addressing the emerging spiritual and creative needs of today's aging population. She is the Founder of StoriesUnfolding, an organization that offers a variety of services of Life Review for the Older Adult in the greater Bay Area. Cristina Flores, Ph.D.

Cristina Flores has been a registered nurse for 19 years. She graduated with an Associate's Degree in Nursing from City College of San Francisco and a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing for California State University, Dominquez Hills. She has a Master's Degree in Gerontology with a Long Term Care Administration emphasis from San Francisco State University. Her nursing practice has included many aspects of the continuum of care - from skilled nursing homes, to the acute care hospital, and home health care. At present, she practices nursing as the owner of three small residential care homes for the elderly. Cristina has recently (2007) completed her PhD in Nursing Health Policy in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco under the direction Drs. Robert Newcomer and Charlene Harrington. She is a fellow at UCSF's School of Medicine's Institute for Health Policy Studies where she has received further training and experiences in health policy and health services research. She is also the Associate Coordinator of the Long Term Care Administration program at SFSU where she teaches Gerontology and Long Term Care Administration.

 

 

David Hahklottube, M.A.

David Hahklottube is the Executive Producer, host and writer of Successful Aging Today, a television program designed to deliver relevant and entertaining information on the topic of aging. He is co-owner and co-administrator of Choctow Houses, cutting edge long-term care facilities, and has worked in a variety of capacities dealing with the issues of aging.

 

 

Marc Maisano, M.A.

Marc Maisano earned his BA. in Sociology from Hayward State University and Masters in Gerontology from San Francisco State University. Mr. Maisano presently serves California State Senator Jackie Speier as District Representative. His specialty is working with older adults as an advocate and liaison with local and state agencies that serve this population. He also provides consultation to the Senator on legislation that directly impacts older adults. In addition, he is responsible for annually producing California’s largest health care and legislative update conference for seniors. Mr. Maisano is also a part-time lecturer at San Francisco State University in Gerontology Department. He is responsible for student’s internships and lectures on Qualitative Research Methods in Gerontology.
