EMPLOYMENT Graduates of the Chinese Program at San Francisco State University (Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts) are now teaching in the majority of schools offering Chinese in Northern California, and many have gone elsewhere in the state and beyond to teach in schools at all levels. Additionally, our alumni are employed by many government agencies such as the State Department, the Treasury Department, and the United States Information Service. Others have entered the private sector to work in banks, import-export companies, airlines, and media. Still others have entered such fields as social work, engineering, counseling, bilingual education programs, and translation. A high proportion of our graduates have continued their studies in Chinese beyond the Master of Arts and are now themselves teaching at the university level.
