Freshmen* and Sophomores* in Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents

Application deadline is March 14, 2008

Applications are being accepted for Academic Year 2008-2009
Program Starts: September 1, 2008
Purpose: The MBRS - RISE Scholars Program is designed to prepare students from underrepresented groups (African-American, Native American, Hispanic American and Pacific Islanders) for biomedical careers by providing academic support and a stimulating research experience.

Annual Financial Support: $8,400 (Freshman and Sophomore)

Program Activities:
Summer Research
Freshman and Sophomore year Honors Colloquia
Facilitated study groups/Faculty Mentoring Program
Minority Seminar Speaker Series
*Freshman is defined as being 4 (four) years from graduation.
*Sophomore is defined as being 3 (three) years from graduation.

  1. Complete the "Applicant Profile" form. ( Application Form)
  2. Write a 1-2 page "Statement of Purpose" describing your career goals and interests.
  3. Request at least 2 (no more than 3) letters of recommendation from high school counselors or instructors (Freshman applicants) or science faculty (Sophomore applicants) that address:
    • your potential for graduate study or a career in biology, chemistry or biochemistry
  4. Provide unofficial copies of college transcript(s)
  5. Complete the "All Science Transcript Form" ( Transcript Form )
