RESOLUTION CONDEMNING TEMPLE UNIVERSITY'S
DECISION RE "DEMOCRACY NOW!" PROGRAM

At its meeting of April 1, 1997, the Academic Senate approved the following resolution:

WHEREAS |
Universities have the unique role in this country of fostering full and frank discussion of difficult social and moral issues; and |

WHEREAS |
The President of Temple University canceled the University's contract with a radio station due to an unpopular set of opinions, thereby preventing a full airing of these issues; therefore be it |

RESOLVED |
That the Academic Senate of San Francisco State University affirms its unwavering support of the First Amendment and expresses its condemnation of the suppression of free discussion and dissemination of news at Temple University, or at any other college and university, including our own; and be it further |

RESOLVED |
That this Resolution be sent to the President of Temple University, the Academic Senate of Temple University, to Pacifica Radio, and to the CSU Statewide Academic Senate. |
