Resolution in
Support of the May 16-17 Mobilization
To Reverse the
Ban on Affirmative Action in the
University of
California System
WHEREAS The values of San Francisco State
University, as stated in the Academic
Mission and Goals for San Francisco State University, include the statement
that the University is dedicated to creating and maintaining “an environment
for learning that promotes respect for an appreciation of scholarship, freedom,
human diversity, and the cultural mosaic of the City of San Francisco and the
Bay Area”; and
WHEREAS The ban on affirmative action in the
University of California system is inimical to these values; and
WHEREAS The Associated Students of the University
of California and the California Teachers Association have articulated in
formal resolutions their support of and intent to participate in the
Mobilization effort; and
WHEREAS The Academic Senate of San Francisco State desires to affirm its support for those students and teachers; therefore, be it
RESOLVED That the Academic Senate of San Francisco
State University support the Bay Area Wide Mobilization to the University of
California Regents’ Meeting in San Francisco May 16-17 to Reverse the Ban on
Affirmative Action in the University of California system; and be it further
RESOLVED That the Academic Senate of San Francisco
State University encourage all faculty, students, staff, and administrators to
participate in and voice their support for the May 16-17 Bay Area Wide
Mobilization; and be it further
RESOLVED That a copy of this resolution be forwarded
to the President of the University of California system, the University of
California Regents, the Chancellor of the California State University, and the
CSU Board of Trustees.
