Support of San Francisco State University's

Proposal to the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)

Whereas, San Francisco State University was founded in 1899 and maintains its commitment to quality instruction and support of scholarship and creative activities in a richly diverse environment, and

Whereas, San Francisco State University embraces its community identity, a commitment to social justice, a responsibility for comprehensive higher education, and the practice of shared governance, and

Whereas, San Francisco State University embraces the importance of systemic review, reflection, and refinement in the effort to continually strengthen our ability to fulfill our commitments, and

Whereas, external accreditation review is an important component of our assessment activities, and

Whereas, Associate Vice President of Academic Planning and Educational Effectiveness, Linda Buckley and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Steering Committee conducted a self-study in preparation for San Francisco State University's upcoming WASC review and have drafted a proposal that reflects the results of that self-study, and

Whereas, the proposal highlights the themes of social justice, equity, and civic engagement; changing institutional demographics; and the challenge of facilitating student success in the 21st century, therefore be it

Resolved, that the Academic Senate of San Francisco State University commends Associate Vice President, Linda Buckley and the WASC Steering Committee on the thoroughness of their work and their contributions to making the upcoming WASC review a tool that will enable us to directly enhance student learning, and be it further

Resolved, that the Academic Senate of San Francisco State University approves and endorses San Francisco State University's Institutional Proposal to the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
