Resolution in Support of the 2008 Focus the Nation
Teach-In
Whereas, on January 30th and 31st, 2008 San Francisco State University will hold a climate change "teach-in" called Focus the Nation, and;
Whereas, on those same days over 1000 campuses across the country will also take part in what may be the largest teach-in in U.S. history, and;
Whereas, the goal of this teach-in is to help focus the national discussion on climate change on taking action now, and;
Whereas, we stand at a unique moment in human history where the decisions that we make today Ð to stabilize global warming pollution Ð will have a profound impact not only on our lives and the lives of our children, but indeed long into the future, and;
Whereas, a committee of faculty and students from across the campus have put together an exciting program with a strong social justice focus and a set of outstanding speakers, and;
Whereas, earlier this year President Corrigan signed the University PresidentsÕ Climate Commitment, committing our campus to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and educate the campus on climate change;
Therefore, be it resolved that the Academic Senate of San Francisco State University endorses the focus the nation climate change teach-in.
