RESOLUTION RESPONDING TO THE TRAGIC EVENTS

OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

BE IT RESOLVED,

That the Academic Senate of San Francisco State University (SFSU) express its sympathy and concern for all those who were affected, directly or indirectly, by the horrific events of September 11, 2001; and

That the Academic Senate commend all the members of the campus community who have provided extraordinary assistance in response to those events; and

That the Academic Senate condemn responses stigmatizing members of any religious, ethnic, racial, or national group; and

That the Academic Senate join with the University administration in affirming that harassment or intimidation of students, staff, faculty, administrators, or guests of the University on this campus will not be tolerated; and

That the Academic Senate reaffirm its strong support for international students presently studying at SFSU and its desire to encourage all students, whether domestic or international, to enhance their academic pursuits in study-abroad programs whenever possible; and

That the Academic Senate urge federal and state officials not to propose any moratorium on international student visas and to continue to seek advice from and consultation with higher education officials on this issue; and

That the Academic Senate strongly support all campus efforts to provide assistance to members of the SFSU community who have been directly affected by the events of September 11, 2001; and

That the Academic Senate urge all individual faculty, staff, students, and administrators to contribute as best they can to these endeavors; and

That copies of this Resolution be sent to the SFSU campus community, the Chancellor of the CSU, the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the CSU, Governor Gray Davis, Senator Dianne Feinstein, Senator Barbara Boxer, Representative Tom Lantos, and Representative Nancy Pelosi.
