At its meeting of March 5, 1996, the Academic Senate unanimously approved the following policy on Graduation with Honors:

Based on cumulative grade point average (GPA) at the time of graduation (across all units attempted, whether in residence or transferred from other institutions):

• A student whose GPA is 3.5 or greater, but less than 3.7 shall graduate cum laude
  ( 3.5 GPA < 3.7)
• A student whose GPA is 3.7 or greater, but less than 3.85 shall graduate magna cum laude (3.7 GPA < 3.85)
• A student whose GPA is 3.85 or greater shall graduate summa cum laude (3.85 GPA)
