Changes in Composition of Hiring Committees
As a result of meetings conducted with a mediator on April 29-30, 2002 Article 12.21a of the CFA/CSU Collective Bargaining Agreement has been amended as follows (new language underlined):
“Each department or equivalent unit shall elect a peer review committee of tenured employees for the purpose of reviewing and recommending individuals for probationary appointments. At the discretion of the president and upon request of the department these peer review committees may also include probationary employees.”
Implementation:
1. President Corrigan has given his approval for probationary faculty to serve on hiring committees.
2. The following process is proposed for the further implementation of this change:
· Hiring committees shall be elected by secret ballot of probationary and tenured faculty in the department from among the tenured full-time faculty. At the discretion of the president and upon request of the department these hiring committees may also include probationary faculty.
· The school/department/program, via the chair/director, will submit a written request for the probationary faculty member to serve on a hiring committee to his/her dean.
· After approval from the dean, the request will be forwarded to the Dean of Faculty Affairs for review and final approval.
· A log of requests will be maintained by the Office of Faculty Affairs for annual process review by the Academic Senate Faculty Affairs Committee.
