Prevention Education

The SAFE Place prevention education program works to provide education to campus groups specifically with fraternities and sororities, athletic teams and residence halls as well as with the general student body population.

We have two focuses in our prevention programs. One focus includes looking at the role alcohol plays in sexual assault. At least one half of all sexual assaults committed during the college years involve alcohol consumption by the perpetrator, the victim or both (Abbey, 2002). The second focus is looking at men’s special role in sexual assault prevention. Men can intervene and become allies in situations where men are at risk of perpetrating or becoming victims of sexual assault. In our programming we examine male socialization whereby creating a culture when sex is always consensual and non-violent.
