Natalie Cox graduated from SF State with a Master of Arts in cultural anthropology and is a devotee to the relaxing benefits of exercise. When she discovered yoga and meditation, she found it to be a perfect complement to every aspect of her life. Over the course of 8 years, she trained in Ashtanga and Hatha yoga, creating her own unique routine that blends core strength with deep flexibility and balance. She believes that the best thing about yoga is that it goes beyond exercise. It can be the embodiment of peaceful relaxation or sweaty endurance. Yoga can be done anywhere in the world, no equipment necessary, and anyone, regardless of their fitness level, can participate. Yoga is for all bodies, all minds.

She strives to give her students a satisfying workout, while providing a fun and encouraging environment.
She recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from James Logan High School in Union City, CA, where she was involved with the Varsity Tennis Team, Vietnamese Student Association, Wings of 100 Viet Dance Company, and several journalism/media internships. Her hobbies include playing tennis, playing the piano, dancing, and participating in spontaneous activities. Jackelyn enjoys the simple things in life - her family, best friends, good conversations, and a genuine laugh.

I don't have a team or haven't signed up for a team. Can I still play?

If you don't have a team or can't find a team to play on before the Intramural Team Entry Form's are due, you can apply to be a Free Agent. Free Agent's are students that do not have a team to play on. All Free Agent's must attend the Pre-league Meeting scheduled on the day and time for the sport you are interested in. We will do our best to then place you on a team at that time.

Is there an entry fee to play in intramural leagues?

No. There is no additional fee to participate in any intramural leagues..

Are intramural sports available for both men and women to participate?

Yes. all intramural leagues are set up with divisions for men, women, and co-rec teams, as well as various skill levels from beginner to more competitive league play.

What happens if we do not attend the mandatory Pre-league Captain's Meeting for the league?

All team captain's must attend the Pre-league Meeting scheduled the week before league play is set to begin. If a representative from the team does not attend the meeting, the team runs the risk of being dropped from the league, and will not be permitted to participate. If a team Captain can not attend the meeting, another team representative may attend in his/her place.

Can we add new or additional player's to our team roster anytime during the semester?

No. Once league play has begun, teams only have up until the second league game of the season to make any changes to their official team roster. After the second league game of the season all team roster's are frozen. The maximum number of players allowed on the team roster at any time is twice the number of players permitted on the playing court for each team.

Rules: Tennis (Singles and Doubles)

The team captain is expected to read and familiarize themselves with the SF State Intramural Sports Handbook and is responsible to inform their team of all rules listed here and within the handbook

The SFSU Campus Recreation Department/Intramural Sports Program reserves the right to implement any rules necessary to protect the integrity of the leagues and ensure fairness of competition and the safety of participants.

Game & Player Equipment

1. The IM Program will furnish tennis balls for both matches and warm ups.

2. Only court or tennis shoes are allowed.

3. A player may not wear anything which could be dangerous to another player (e.g. jewelry, rings, watches, etc.) Only stud earrings are permitted. Knee braces are permissible provided all metal is covered by protective padding.

4. Hard casts of any kind are not allowed.

Player/Team Composition

1. Tennis league will consist of the following divisions: Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.

2. Tennis singles can be a team of up to two players; all doubles teams can be a team made up of four players, Mixed doubles must always have one female player on the court at all times.

3. You have up to the second league game to finalize your official team roster.

4. Each tennis participant may compete for only one team in the league

5. Intercollegiate tennis players are not permitted to play in intramural leagues.

6. Club players must play in Division A Leagues. No more than one club players can play on any intramural team.

The Game

1. Matches are self-officiated. All illegal hits, net violations, line calls, etc. are honor calls and should be made by the person making the play on the ball. Please be honest and consistent in the calls.

2. A match consists of up to five no-ad sets.

3. A five minute grace period will be given for late arriving teams. After 5 min. the game will be considered a forfeit, 0.0 sportsmanship points will be given to that team.

4. Game roster must be filled out before the start of the game.

Scoring & Timing

1. Scoring order is Game, Set, Match.

2. Scoring is no-ad. This means a game is won by the first team to win four points (1, 2, 3, game). When the game score is deuce (3-3) (game point), the receiving team chooses which side is to receive the serve. In the mixed doubles set the serve must be gender to gender at game point.

3. Each no-ad set is won by the first team to reach six games. A nine-point tiebreaker will be played at five games all in any set.

4. The match winner is the best 3 out of 5 sets.

Boundaries

1. A ball touching any part of a boundary line is “good”.

Warm-up Time

1. All players are allowed a five-minute warm-up. All team members are encouraged to warm-up during this time.

The Service

1. The home team will be determined by the spin of a racquet.

2. The home team will serve first in the first set, then initial serves will alternate sides at the beginning of each set.

3. Service may be made anywhere behind end line.

4. For mixed doubles players need to rotate serving order and court position between female and male.

5. Players will have two chances to make a successful serve. If either of the two service chances hit the net, the serve does not count. Let serves are not playable. If on the second try a successful serve is not made the ball and a point goes over to the other team.

Changing Ends

1. After every four games players change ends. In the nine-point tiebreaker, change ends only after the first four points. In the Super tiebreaker, change ends only after the first six points.

Tie Breakers

1. Nine-Point Tiebreaker

A nine-point tiebreaker will be played at five games all in any set. The person who is to serve next begins the tiebreaker. Each player serves two points in succession starting from the deuce court. Players change sides after four points. The first team (or person) to score five points wins the tiebreaker. If the tiebreaker reaches 4-4, the person who served the eighth point serves the ninth (final) point. The receiver, however, has the choice of sides (except in mixed doubles, where the service must be gender-to-gender). The winner of the ninth point is the winner of the set. Note: You do not have to win by two points.

2 Super Tiebreaker

If the match enters into a Super Tiebreaker, a coin toss will decide which team serves first/receives or chooses side in the Super Tiebreaker. The Super Tiebreaker should be treated as a new set and substitutions are allowed. Either player on the serving team may serve first. The receiving team selects from which end of the court they want to receive. In addition, court positions may be changed (i.e. the person who played forehand position may switch with his/her partner to play the backhand position). Each player serves two points in succession starting from the deuce court. Players change sides after six points. The first team to score seven points wins the Super Tiebreaker.

Substitutions

1. A team can at any point, INCLUDING THE SUPER TIEBREAKER, substitute a player (same gender) into a set for any reason.

2. Once a player is replaced, he/she cannot return in that set.

Zero Tolerance Policy

There is ZERO TOLERANCE towards fighting or other violent acts in all SF State Intramural Leagues. Players and spectators involved in throwing punches or other violent behavior will be severely dealt with. They will be banned from any SF State IM league or program forever, and a report will be filed with the Campus Police, possibly resulting in assault charges being filed.
