MINORS IN RECREATION

With the ever increasing emphasis on leisure and recreation in today's society, it is not suprising to learn that a minor in recreation is becoming increasingly valuable. Whether your interests lie in the world of high finance and commerce or in the world of biology or social sciences, recreation may have a minor interest to you.

Students minoring in recreation may choose an emphasis in one of the following areas:

Commercial Recreation and Tourism Management
Featuring courses relating to the organization and management of leisure and recreation enterprises and tourism industry.

Outdoor Recreation and Natural Resources
Featuring courses in camping, adventuring, small boat sailing, and skin and park and natural resource management, ecology, and nature study

Community/Nonprofit Recreation
Featuring courses relating to social recreation, developmental processes in play and community recreation.

Therapeutic/Wellness
Featuring courses relating to therapeutic recreation, wellness and expressive art therapy.

Students desiring to minor in recreation are encouraged to consult with the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies as soon as possible. They will be directed to a faculty advisor related to their area of specific interest.

Internship
Students complete a 6-unit internship with an approved recreation or leisure services agency during their final spring semester. A minimum of 400 hours of paid/volunteer work in recreation settings are required prior to enrollment in the following internship courses:
