Comprehensive Exam Policy
Comprehensive Exams may be attempted only one time per semester and for a
total of two (2) times. An attempt is defined as filling a "written
intent" letter with the graduate coordinator on or prior to the due date
(specified each semester). In addition to achieving an overall passing
score on the comprehensives (7.0 or higher) the student must have an average
passing score or better in the Content Section. If a student does not pass
the comprehensive examination within the number of tries listed in the Bulletin
copy, the graduate faculty will recommend declassification of the student
from our program to the Dean of the Graduate School.
On 4/5/96 the graduate faculty unanimously voted that the existing department policy is
confirmed regarding comprehensive exams. The policy is as follows": "There are
no additional options available beyond those conditions listed in the Student
Bulletin" If a student does not pass the comprehensive examination within the number
of time listed in Bulletin copy, the graduate faculty will recommend declassification of
the student from our program to the Dean of the Graduate Division.
