Oct 14: ASI program event - Project Rebound Open House
Meet Project Rebound's new staff in the midst of music, food, and the
SFSU community at Jack Adams Hall in the Cesar Chavez Student Center. The
open house will take place from 10am to 2pm.
About Project Rebound
A program for people in and from the criminal justice system project
rebound, Associated Students Incorporated, San Francisco State University.
In 1967 Professor John Irwin created Project Rebound as a way to matriculate
people into San Francisco State University from out of the criminal justice
system. From that earlier beginning Project Rebound came under the Associated
Students Incorporated whereby "Education as an alternative to incarceration"
became the primary focus and graduation became the ultimate goal whereby
many of Project Rebound students have obtained Baccalaureate degrees, Masters'
degrees, and PhD's.
Campus and Community Support
The program also acts as a liaison with networks throughout the campus
at-large as well as throughout the communities in and around the San Franicsco
Bay Area. We are involved in working with teenagers and adults. As such,
we utilize a multitude of educational, tutorial, and vocational resources.
Wherein we also focus on job referrals, housing, counseling, and networking
with "Human Service Provider Organizations" that can best serve our students
needs. It is our contention that it is hard to educate the hungry and the
homeless. From prison to empowerment, from destitution to the notion of
"restorative justice," we are here to aid those who want to help themselves
and help others. We are still about the business of " each-one-teach-one"
reach back and do unto others as others have done to support you.
Admission Strategies
1) Fill-out our questionnaire, answering all questions and return it to
our office.
2) If you qualify we will send you an admissions packet for SFSU.
3) If you do not qualify for SFSU we will send you a form letter with
all the information to enroll at EOPS/Second Change at City College San
Francisco.
4) However, if you are determined to be at San Francisco State University
and could not enter the university through the regular admissions process.
You can enroll in, Extended Education, Open University, or with Independent
Studies with permission from a professor. If you network with the Department
of Vocational Rehabilitation write to 185 Berry Street, San Francisco,
Ca 94107. You can get funding to pay for you classes, supplies, tools clothes,
and transportation. But you must have a disability. You can also contact
the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) and receive funding for your educational
or vocational plans.
Financial aid for applicants with drug convictions:
Although a person may have drug convictions, they can apply for financial
aid under certain criterions.
If you have one (1) conviction you can apply 1 year after your conviction.
If you have two (2) convictions, you can apply after 2 years of being convicted.
If you have three (3) convictions you can apply for financial aid after
3 years of your conviction. If you participate in an in-prison recovery
home or out-patient drug program you can submit a "certificate of participation
or certificate of rehabilitation" and receive financial aid. Do not be
turned away, there are still ways to get financial aid to enter institutions
of higher learning.
