Few regions can rival the rich, lively labor history of the San Francisco Bay Area. This history is preserved at the Labor Archives and Research Center, a unit of the J. Paul Leonard Library. With its collections of local labor union files, memorabilia, oral histories, papers of individuals, photographs, and ephemera, the Center serves the academic and labor communities; researchers from the creative arts (including films, videos and museum exhibits); genealogists; and the general public seeking greater awareness of the role of working people in the history of Northern California. The Archives actively collects labor-related materials from the counties surrounding the San Francisco Bay and since 1985 has collected more than 8,000 feet of material.
