Parents & Family Program
As we welcome back our students, faculty and staff to the start of classes for the spring semester, we have news that we would like to share with you our parents of SF State students.
As we begin the new semester, we do so with one fewer building to serve our needs. During routine environmental health testing conducted in the Science Building, the University identified some rooms that tested positive for potential environmental hazards. Further testing revealed potential hazards in several other rooms in the building. To best address the larger scope of the potential hazards, the entire Science Building has been closed.
Over the course of the last few weeks, numerous university employees have been hard at work day and night to minimize the disruptions this may cause, inevitably there will be some confusion and inconvenience.
I have asked for patience and cooperation as we all work together to adjust and that we as a campus community be especially understanding of students--and faculty--who may experience delays arriving for classes in locations that are new to them.
SF State has accomplished a Herculean task getting ready for the start of classes. It is not easy to find alternative seats for 9,000-plus enrollments, and to furnish spaces intended for other purposes. I am deeply grateful for the creativity and resourcefulness shown by the college deans, administrators, faculty and staff throughout campus. Their dedication has been remarkable.

There are so many reasons to sign-up with the Parents & Family Program:
What’s been the best part of being a member of the program?
"To be part of the San Francisco parents and share our experience and help each other." (Alicia V., SF State Parent)
"The program helps keep parents informed, without doing the helicopter thing!"
(Fran P., SF State Parent)
" The best part of participating in this program is the opportunity to
give honest, open answers to parents and easing their minds about their
child coming to an urban campus."
(Mary O., SF State Parent)
What would you tell a parent who is thinking about joining the program?
"The Parents and Family Program has been a one stop shop in answering the questions I had, and have, about my daughter’s college experience. I was able to give back by volunteering at the Southern California Pre-Admissions Reception in San Diego, providing answers, for other parents, to those same questions I had the year before. It is never easy sending your child away to college for the first time, but the program has certainly taken a lot of the mystery and stress out of a large portion of it."
(Lynnda S., SF State Parent)
"With our children attending such a fine institution as SF State, we as parents getting an opportunity to contribute and further SF State’s mission by joining this program could be that missing link between success and failure of our children. SF State needs our help to help the students."
(Pam P., SF State Parent)
