Campus Tours for a Student and His/Her Parents and Family Members

At SF State, taking a guided or self guided campus tour (during our Fall and Spring semesters) is the best way to get acquainted with our university.  Guided campus tours are conducted during the week and require a reservation.  The schedule, which varies from semester to semester, will be posted at the beginning of each semester after our funding is received and after our tour guides add and finalize their class schedules.  If the dates and times do not fit your schedule after we post our schedule, you are welcome to tour the campus on your own at any time with the Self Guided Campus Tour publication (see below).

What does a student guided campus tour include?

The guided campus tour for a student and his/her parents and family members is a free walking tour on pathways outside of buildings that takes approximately 1 hour.  It is conducted by one of our trained student tour guides who welcomes the opportunity to share their university experience as an undergraduate student.  The guided campus tour encompasses the main part of the campus; however, tours of other facilities (specific majors, housing and the library) are arranged through that specific department/office. (E-mail addresses and phone numbers of SF State departments and programs are available at www.sfsu.edu/atoz.)

I am a graduate student; can I participate? I am an international student; can I participate?

Yes, you can learn more about services available to you.  However, we cannot answer questions related to being a graduate student (or international student) at SF State.  Graduate students will need to contact their major department for assistance and international students will need to contact the Office of International Programs for assistance.  (E-mail addresses and phone numbers of SF State departments are available at www.sfsu.edu/atoz.)

Do I need a reservation?  What days and times are available?

Yes, reservations are required.  Space is limited.  After you submit your request, a confirmation will be sent by email one week before the tour.  You will need to print out the confirmation AND bring it with you check-in.  Click on your desired week to see the available times and to make a reservation.  (Dates and times will disappear when the tour is full.)

  • Week of December 7 - click here to make a reservation for the week of Dec 7
  • End of December - Due to finals, holidays and furlough program days (time and pay cut due to reduced funding from the California legislature and governor), the Self Guided Campus Tour publication is available for you to tour the campus on your own at any time (see below for details).

How does the Self Guided Campus Tour work?

It's easy to tour the campus on your own with the Self Guided Campus Tour publication!  Print out the publication from www.sfsu.edu/outreach/Self-guided_tour.pdf and bring it with you to campus.  (Directions to SF State, parking information and a campus map is available at www.sfsu.edu/~sfsumap)  The tour begins at the Student Services building (number 1 on campus map), but feel free to start at any location you choose.  You follow the numbered campus map and read the descriptions to learn about majors, services and special features of the campus.  During a regular school day, feel free to walk in and out of any of the academic buildings (number 1 to 17).
(Note:  You will need Adobe Reader to view the brochure, please visit www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html for a free Adobe Reader download. If you have trouble with the links above, cut and paste the website address into the address bar of your browser.)
