SARS ALERT– RETURNING/VISITING STUDENTS

Mainland China; Hong Kong; Taiwan; Singapore;
Vietnam; and Toronto, Canada

 

WHAT CAN I DO?

·         Be alert to developing any cough or/and difficulty in breathing

·         Take your temperature for 10 days:

If your temperature on any of the 10 days is 100.4 F/38 C or above, PLEASE call the Student Health Service (SHS) @
415-338-2754 and report yourself as a possible SARS case.

 

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO ME?

You will be asked to:

·         Isolate yourself for 72 hours( 3 days) - don’t go to work, school, out-of-home child care, or any public areas

·         Wear a mask (FREE @ SHS or housing office) - SARS is
spread by droplets from coughing and sneezing

·         Take your temperature daily

·         Monitor your respiratory symptoms

If your symptoms improve or disappear, you will be able to resume your daily activities.

 

If your symptoms PERSIST PLEASE call the Student Health Service (SHS) @ 415-338-2754 or the closest medical facility and report that you may have SARS.


If the SHS is closed and you reside on campus, call the Department of Public Safety @ 415-338-7222 and asked to be taken to the nearest hospital.

SARS ALERT– TRAVELING STUDENTS

WHAT CAN I DO?

·         Stop at the Student Health Service and ask for a FREE thermometer to take with you.

·         Wash your hands frequently

·         If you may have been exposed to someone who may have SARS, take your temperature for 10 days. If your temperature on any of the 10 days is 100.4 F / 38C or above, DO THE FOLLOWING:.

·         Isolate yourself for 72 hours( 3 days) - do not go to work, school,
out-of-home child care, or any public areas

·         Wear a mask (FREE @ SHS or housing office) -SARS is spread by droplets from coughing and sneezing

·         Take your temperature daily

·         Monitor your respiratory symptoms

If your symptoms improve or disappear, you will be able to
resume your daily activities.  If your symptoms PERSIST
PLEASE call the closest medical facility and report that you may have SARS.

WHEN YOU RETURN HOME

If you did not get sick—

·         Continue to monitor your temperature for 10 days

·         Be alert to developing any cough or/and difficulty in breathing

If you develop respiratory symptoms,  PLEASE call the Student Health Service (SHS) @ 415-338-2754 or the closest medical facility and report that you may have SARS. 


If the SHS is closed and you reside in the residence halls, call Public Safety @ 415-338-7222 and asked to be taken to the nearest hospital.
