International Connections

Do you have questions about studying at SF State? Are you confused about which classes you should take or have questions about how to find a place to live that is close to the SFSU campus? Are you unsure about the weather here in San Francisco and want to know what type of clothing would be best to bring with you? Are you interested in learning more about the more than 200 student clubs and organizations, campus activities or sports opportunities on the SF State campus? Would you like to contact a current SF State international student in your major field of study and ask questions about your degree program requirements, professors, etc.? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then OIP’s “International Connections” program is for you!

The “International Connections” program provides an opportunity for continuing SF State students to serve as volunteer e-mail contacts with new international students like yourselves who may have many questions about studying at SFSU and about life in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please make your “international connection” with a current SF State student now!

*Please be aware that information in the form such as name, email address and major etc. were given by students voluntary, and they will be posted online and be available to the public.

Thanksgiving is a true American holiday, a time when families and friends gather together to share a meal and give thanks for all that is good in life, just as the pilgrims did when they celebrated their first harvest in America nearly 400 years ago!

The Office of International Programs (OIP) will arrange for you to spend this traditional holiday with an American host (usually faculty, staff, students and alumni from SF State). These families and single people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds would like to invite you into their homes to learn more about your culture and to share in a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to Thursday, November 26, 2009. You might spend the day sharing conversation, playing with the children, and/or helping to prepare the meal, etc.

As part of our Home Hospitality Program, the Office of International Programs (OIP) is currently looking for volunteers to host an international student/scholar for a Thanksgiving Day meal on Thursday, November 26, 2009.

Hosts can be families or individuals of any age, religion and ethnic background. We are seeking hosts from all SF State community members-faculty, staff, students and alumni who are interested in opening their homes to an international student/scholar for Thanksgiving Day.
