    Formal Dispute/Appeal/Grievance Resolution

Four avenues are available to individuals who are seeking formal dispute resolution depending on the dispute matter: University Grievance Process, Union Grievance Process, Criminal Justice/Campus Police and off-campus process (Equal Employment Office and the Fair Employment and Housing.

For students, the current SFSU Catalog outlines the formal process under the "Rules and Regulations." It is extremely important that students follow the defined process for grade appeals, sexual harassment/racial nondiscrimination policies, and other grievance procedures.

For staff and faculty, the Office of Human Resource, Office of Faculty Affairs, Office of Administration and Finance, and the Union Contracts may provide additional resources. If the grievance matter is related to discrimination, the University Affirmative Active Office is the first step toward filing a formal grievance procedure. A University employee has the option of filing a complaint with the Federal Civil Rights Office and California State Fair Housing and Employment.

For more details on this process, please refer to this diagram.
