The Office of Affirmative Action & Employment Equity Program
The Office of Affirmative Action & Employment Equity Program (AAEEP) fosters and defends equal employment for everyone in the SFSU community, and promotes diversity through specific affirmative actions. We help create an environment where each individual’s experiences, ideas, and perspectives are actively sought and valued, where everyone can succeed.

Affirmative action consists of programs that actively take into account race, gender, national origin, disability, or veteran status to remedy the effects of past discrimination. These programs include training, special recruitment, mentoring, development activities, and other assistance.

The following groups are protected by affirmative action regulations:

      • Cultural/ethnic and racial groups, including African Americans, Hispanics, Asians/Pacific Islanders, and American Indian/Alaskan Natives
      • Women
      • Individuals with disabilities
      • Vietnam-era veterans

Equal Employment Opportunity ensures a work environment that is free from discriminatory conditions, where each individual is assessed solely on the basis of merit. It is illegal and a violation of SFSU policy to be treated differently, harassed, or in any other way discriminated against on the basis of any of the following:

      • Race
      • Color
      • Religion
      • Gender
      • National Origin
      • Age
      • Citizenship
      • Mental/physical disability
      • Marital Status
      • Veteran Status
      • Sexual orientation

Federal and state laws prohibiting discrimination apply to all of SFSU’s employment practices, educational programs, services, activities, and business practices.

At SFSU, the term "diversity" is used to describe an environment that accommodates that rich cultural mixture of the United States and the State Of California. A diverse community encourages mutual respect and understanding at all levels for all groups and individuals with in the University.

Differences in heritage, culture, gender, age and lifestyle are appreciated and valued at SFSU for the varied perspectives they bring to the educational process, the workplace, and the services provided by the University.
